Hundreds take part in Good Friday presentation
Adeje’s dramatisation of the Good Friday events leading up the crucifixion of Jesus Christ has been deemed a success for another year.
The Calle Grande in Adeje was taken over by the dramatisation, ‘La Pasión’ today, with hundreds of local people taking part in the annual event depicting the last days and crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The streets were also full of visitors who followed the action, and the events were broadcast life on television and social media.
Over 200 people took on the roles of the people of Jerusalem and the main protagonists in this theatrical representation. And somewhat unusually the weather favoured the actors with some cloud in the sky allowing relief from the kind of heat the public and the cast have suffered from in previous years.
The mayor of Adeje, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, congratulated all those who took part including the over 100 who worked on direction, production, stage building, costumes, communication, props, etc. “Everyone involved played their part in making this possible, and my congratulations and thanks go to all for converting this into one of the most important Easter events in Adeje”. he said,
“Every year more and more people get involved and every year we learn and improve, renewing and incorporating changes into the overall production”, he added.
Under the direction of Laura Marrero and through the department of culture this has become one of the most eagerly awaited productions of the year. The councillor for culture Adolfo Alonso Ferrera, expressed his huge satisfaction at the production. He was also happy to report that the whole production went off without a hitch, nor were there any security matters to report.
The evolution of the production of ‘La Pasión’ began in 1996 when, due to structural issues, the normal dramatic Easter celebrations had to move outside to the street from the Santa Ursula church. “Taking the presentation onto the Calle Grande was circumstantial, but it has now grown into the important event it is today”, commented mayor Rodríguez Fraga.
