TENERIFE PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
24th April - 1st May 2020
Enjoy a weeks stay on the volcanic island of Tenerife in the Atlantic ocean exploring with your camera in the company of fellow photography enthusiasts. Known for its tourist resorts and great year round weather there is another side to this island which is a hidden gem for photographers.
You will stay together in a comfortable villa on the west coast and from this base travel daily accompanied by Alex and Phil, two experienced photographers who have an intimate knowledge of the island. They will get you to the best locations, ranging from wild Atlantic seascapes to rugged volcanic landscapes, places the average tourist rarely sees, where you can discover and capture the drama in the landscape. Also included will be trips to old towns and villages with fine examples of Colonial architecture and ramshackle rustic buildings, and in Santa Cruz, the capital, there are examples of some cutting edge modern architecture. The Canary Islands are also noted for their clear skies and lack of light pollution so make an ideal place to practice some astrophotography. There will be a new moon on the 23rd April so for a few nights afterwards the night sky will be a star filled spectacular sight, including the possibility to photograph the galactic core of the milky way.
Alex and Phil are on hand to help you with all technical aspects as well as assist you with compositions, and advise you on using the available light and weather conditions to make the most of the amazing scenery.

We will travel around with the car, taking advantage of the light and stopping whenever opportunities present themselves.
We have specific objectives to check:
Sunrise - we will have at least 3 days with 3 different locations to explore at sunrise, especially on the coasts
Sunset - up in the mountains at Masca village and up on the Teide volcano, above the sea of clouds, we will make the most of the time spent there
Cultural aspect - on the 26th of April we will be able to explore one of the many “fiestas” celebrated on the island, a mix of old and new, filled with colour and energy.
Astrophotography - Tenerife is known for the visibility of the sky at night from up on the base of the Teide Volcano(2200m). The lack of any artificial light makes it a perfect location for night photography. We will spend one evening/night here.
Old and new architecture - during the day we will explore the old villages up in the mountains and also visit Santa Cruz, the capital city, that provides a mix of old and new architecture
Nature - vegetation - spring time in Tenerife provides great opportunities for landscape and macro photography. Going up from sea level to over 2000m we will explore everything from dry, desert landscape to huge pine forests to lava fields and a rich selection of exotic plants.
